MICROCHIPPING SERVICE
Under the new microchipping law that came into effect on the 6th of April 2016 all dogs must be microchipped by the age of eight weeks old.
A microchip is a tiny electronic device that is implanted beneath your pet’s skin. Radio waves activate the microchip when in close proximity to a Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID). When scanned the microchip transmits your pet’s unique identification number to the scanning device, this enables your pet to be identified and your personal details to be retrieved from the microchip database. If the unthinkable does happen and your pet goes missing; the microchip can easily be scanned by any veterinary practice or pet care center to retrieve your personal details; it is important to keep your details up to date so you can be reunited with your pet as quickly as possible. You can rest assured that the microchip will be effective for your pets’ entire lifetime and the procedure is safe and simple. Each microchip comes with two free transfers. If you are a pet breeder there is no charge to register your litter to their new owners. Our microchips are registered to the smartrace database which is fully Defra compliant/ ICO approved.
Our services
Microchips will last for the entirety of your pet’s life ensuring a speedy reunion if your pet goes missing.
The microchips are approximately the size of a grain of rice and do not cause any discomfort to your pet, these microchips have anti migration technology to ensure they stay in the site implanted.
Each microchip is individually packaged and sterile until opening. Every pack comes with an I.D collar tag with your pet’s microchip number; this will enable people to find your details without needing to visit a pet care centre. Also included is a small plastic card with your pet’s I.D number, this can be kept in a purse or wallet at all times.
If you would like to check if your pet is microchipped or have misplaced your pets microchip details we also offer a mobile pet microchip scanning service.
This service can only be provided for individual pets within a 5 mile radius of our business premises; we can travel further afield but this would incur costs of £1 per mile above the 5 mile radius.
If you have a litter of puppies/kittens/rabbits that have been microchipped but are now unsure of the pets identities (not sure which microchip belongs to which pet) we can also offer a scanning service for this.
The benefits of microchipping
If your feline friend ever loses their way or wanders too far; the chances are he/she will begin to visit a cat-friendly home where they will be fed. The easiest way for the family to find the rightful owner is to take it along to the nearest pet care center to be scanned for a microchip. Your details will then be retrieved and you can be reunited quickly. If your cat isn’t microchipped the new family may decide to keep your cat as they won’t be able to contact you. If they microchip your cat as their new family pet; they would then become the registered keeper.
If your cat is microchipped you can acquire a microchip activated cat flap; these can be programmed to recognize multiple microchip numbers; this will ensure that no other animals can enter your home. You can also acquire a microchip activated pet feeder, this is extremely useful if you have more than one pet or your pets require different food or they are on medication.
If your dog ever loses its way or wanders too far; the chances are it won`t be long before somebody realizes he/she is lost. The easiest way for them to reunite you with your pet is to take it along to the nearest pet care center to be scanned for a microchip. If you have a dog that has been with your family before the new law become mandatory and has never been microchipped before; it is required by law and ensures a quick reunion should your pet go missing.
All rabbit owners know that rabbits are extremely good at escaping; however secure you try to make them in their home environment there is always the worry that they may find a way out. If they do escape, he/she is at very high risk from being preyed upon by other animals or in danger of being injured by traffic.
